Daily Reading
We recently launched a two-year Bible reading plan and encouraged each person to read using the S.O.A.P. method which is a simple tool to interact with God daily through the Bible. One of the most valuable gifts we can give people is to equip and inspire them to be students of God’s Word. Below is an explanation of the S.O.A.P. method, along with a list of readings for the first quarter.
The reading plan is chronological and interspersed with Old and New Testament passages. For your convenience, the reading plan is below. We also have a bookmark with the reading schedule for April 1, 2010 - June 30, 2010 available at our church office or the information booth in the lobby.
How to Use the S.O.A.P. Method
JOURNAL: To begin, you will need a journal - either a paper or digital journal, whichever is most convenient for you.
PRAY: Since this is more than a reading exercise, pray asking God to speak with you. This is your divine appointment with God each day.
REVIEW: Think about significant parts of the previous day - a conversation, conflict, project, event, or anything that stands out over the last 24 hours.
TITLE: Leave room at the top of your day's entry for a title to write in after you have completed the S.O.A.P. method.
SCRIPTURE: Read the passage twice. Underline or highlight what stands out to you. Choose one word, phrase, or verse that speaks to you and write it word for word.
OBSERVATION: Focus on the scripture you copied, and make observations about the text, such as, what did the author mean? Write a paraphrase of the text, outline it, or ask questions for clarity.
APPLICATION: Ask yourself how it applies to your life, and write out your answers to these questions: What will you do? When will you do it? With whom will you do it?
PRAYER: Converse with God by writing a short prayer based on what you learned. Go back and put a title to your journal entry.
