Premarital Counseling

At Church on the Hill we believe that marriage is a sacred relationship which is encouraged and ordained by God. Marriage is good and should be a picture of Jesus' love for the church. Marriage forces us to honestly look at ourselves and offer grace to our partner. It is a relationship that should cause us to mature emotionally, spiritually, and relationally.

If marriage is the most significant earthly relationship, then it is important that each marriage starts with a solid foundation. The divorce rate in our culture is at about 50%, so in order to not become a statistic, we need to do something different from the norm.

At Church on the Hill we want people to have access to great pre-marital resources, and in order to do that we offer a six-week course led by Pastor Elliot and Penny Sands covering the following topics:

  • How God Created Marriage and The Effects of the Fall
  • Complementarian vs. Egalitarian Marriage
  • The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman
  • Headship, Mutual Submission, and Tough Passages (Ephesians 5:15-33; I Peter 3:1-12)
  • Communication
  • How to Have a Fair Fight
  • Finances
  • Sex
  • Blended Families
  • Various other topics as they present themselves

The course is very conversational, so the hope is that by sitting with a group of other couples we will be challenged, encouraged and will learn how to be great marriage partners.

The goal of this course is that each person will receive tools to be a great partner in the marriage relationship.

Based upon need, desire, and schedule, Elliot and Penny will also do one-on-one sessions with couples for a small fee.
