renting vs. owning?

When do you feel the difference between renting a home and owning a home? You might not feel the difference every month when you write the mortgage or the rent check because both involve a debit in your checking account. You really feel the difference when something breaks. If you are a renter you call the owner, and the expectation is that the owner will fix the problem and assume financial responsibility. If you own the house you live in and something breaks, you are the one making six trips to Home Depot to fix something you have no experience fixing. Home ownership can be a wonderful adventure!

Hundreds of people would call Church on the Hill their home church, but what do they mean? Do they consider themselves "renters" or "owners" of the church? When something breaks physically, like our air conditioner, too many people expect the owners to make the repairs. When something breaks emotionally, like a relationship, renters are quick to find a new church and new relationships instead of repairing the broken ones. The owner versus renter approach to church is reflected in our current financial situation. Please see the video above (click on Scott's picture) to get further information on our current financial status and how you can become an owner.
